The writer further outlines the research questions that guide the research and these he categorizes into three research questions. These also help the writer display the problem that the study is meant to address. The research brings forth theories that help explain the research problem like the Grade Point Average theory, grade retention and proficiency tests as methods of measuring performance in schools. The research indicates how the participants were selected and the procedure of the research as well as the parameters or variables that were being measured.
The problem statement of the research was clearly stated as Academic and School Behavioral Variables as Predictors of High School Graduation Among At-Risk Adolescents Enrolled in a Youth-Based Mentoring Program" and this leads clearly to the need for the research that was conducted. In the last paragraph of the introduction, the article clearly outlines the justification of the study which creates the necessity for the research. The problem statements were also framed in an academic manner, specific, accurate and researchable by nature. After discussing the various approaches to this subject of academic mentoring, the researcher outlines why it was necessary that he carries out the research with the approach he uses. The study then outlines research method that would be used, the participant selection despite being that they were all students in Cincinnati, and the parameters to be captured. The article then outlines the data analysis method that was used (binary logistic regression), then gives the results of the research and a discussion of the results. The research is a comprehensive one, adhering to the tenets of a standard academic research and giving the details as is required.
